    You'd have to have a good business case within that geographic domain* to maintain ownership.

    * When you just say 'co', you mean that? Because that would imply a country-by-country basis, where there would be little in terms of international standardisation or aribitration.

    Regardless, there's likely nothing to stop you buying someone else's domain in the first place, and as long as you'd be willing to settle for a 'fair' amount, little they could do to screw you over in any fundamental sense, after the event.
