It's amazing to see what was pushed over the years in the name of "freedom."
I was looking at this, only 11 years before I was born that the Federal Government forced states to invalidate "miscegenation" laws (that races can't intermarry).
And of course it was framed as a federalism/ freedom argument:
"The court argued that it was the duty of the state to protect marriage as a public institution. Therefore the freedom of states to prohibit whites and blacks from marrying each other could not be infringed."
