    To Scarabin:

    By definition Swiss originated design was intentionally clean, readable and objective. This means (like you mentioned) that it was free of "unnecessary clutter" that might steer the piece into something artistic. I'm not sure this means safe, because you still need to focus on symetry, grid and typography to name a few, so you have less elements to work on the piece.

    What you call safe, I call faster to absorb and functional, while it definitely nice to see great technique like many of the the overly imitated contemporary designers out there, there is a place for every style and technique.

    Just like you wouldn't play grindcore music over the phone when putting customers on hold at the bank, or have Fausto Papetti opening for Lady Gaga.

    Imagine if urban signaletics were over artistic and took time to understand due to heavy graphic elements on the composition?

    We would have a harder time understanding maps, finding a cross street or figuring out where the fire exit is at the hotel.
