beware, barrel distortion and perspective distortion are 2 different things... barrel distortion means you point the lens at a brick wall, perfectly flat aim, but you see a barrel-like shape, not a flat wall...
Perspective distortion is a creative tool or an annoying problem, depending on how good you are at working with a wide angle lens...
Wide angle lenses cause oddities like elongated heads in group photos for the people on the edges, that can be partially fixed by dxoptics and similar software...
