According to conventional wisdom, the African continent emerged through a split-up of the southern mega-continent Gondwanaland 120 million years ago. New discoveries of dinosaur fossil sculls in the deserts of Niger however strongly suggest that the southern continents drifted apart at least 25 million years later. Africa, as such, thus may be 95 million years old.
