Sorry about your experience, jnnbug.
We're all assholes on the internet, especially here.
It's just that some people are completely humourless and autistic assholes, and they can't help but be wholly bitter and resentful. Unbeloved by friends and family, they strike out to compensate for their inadequacies by bing total dongbags on the internet. Quack, for instance. It's hard to ignore their desperate attention-seeking, especially when you're directly targeted by it.
But the best thing to do is just that - ignore it.
