    If you're serious about it, get something like the above (there are loads to choose from).

    They're well worth the spend if you're serious about it. I've used a Huey Pro which was pretty good, you can leave it plugged in to the machine all the time, and it'll sit in in a little cradle and measure ambient light, and adjust your screen to display consistently given the lighting conditions.
