if you like the outdoors at all i'd go with LA. you're only a short drive away from mountains, forests (incredible redwoods!), beaches (we have many beautiful, clean beaches) and deserts...
- the surfing is greatscarabin

- and i think the snow is closer to us than it is for you..e-pill

- nyc has nature nearby too if you have a car or are willing to ride the bus for a couple hoursismith
- or take the train to where I live... but I agree, the outdoors near LA is much more interesting to meismith
- new jersey and long island do not count as nature.********
