normally i would say the vaio, but you have to consider that the vaio is mostly plastic with a magnesium alloy frame, and the mac has a solid machined aluminum body (which explains, in part, the price difference). it depends on how rough you are with your kit...in the long run, the mac will be much less likely to develop stress cracks. I have seen that happen with vaios, and sony has been less than eager to fix them.
what model vaio? that might help.
