I've always used Gumtree with great results, but be cautious when looking. Don't hand money over until you have the keys.
The last 2 places I've lived have been through Gumtree and they've been stupidly cheap and bloody brilliant.
Last year I was paying 290 quid a month inclusive for a double bedroom with a huge wet room to myself, massive garden e.t.c in a Zone 2 houseshare with some awesome random people.
