eh? Are your settings wrong? A standard POP3 setup should, by default, download all content off the server?
Thunderbird was updated not too long ago, and apparently Mozilla are kicking dust off the ol' Bird, with an eye toward further development, as they've recognised the support community wasn't quite so active with this as it had been for Firefox, etc.
