I worked for a company there called THEmedia, who do websites, trade shows presenations and video work primarily. All great as an idea, but the company was run like a mill. I was a total cog.
Even worse than that, they had a device on each computer (ps. all companies in vancouver use pc's. bc seems to be a non-mac zone) that 'tracked' what you were working on. You signed in in the morning, then had to diligently track every little thing that you did. Each project had a number you punched in. you then had the punch in what section you were working in and what you were doing in that section. It would then present you with a timer to show how long you had been working. If someone came to talk to you about another project, you had the sign out of what you were doing, sign in under their project, answer their question, sign back out, and back in under the one you were working on. you also had to register any break (including going to the toilet), lunch, and phone calls (which, if business related, also had to be registered in the tracker). Anal beyond all extremes. All creativity and social interaction is squashed under it's oppressive weight.
Last I heard, they'd instigated a new feature that counted down the amount of time left on a budget that you were working on...
...I bullshit you not...
