If you mean Google Voice, I thought it was instant... or maybe there was a 24hr activation– I had it long before Google bought GrandCentral though. Apparently there is a $10 fee to change your number (they have a search though which lets you find words and phrases, hehe!) but I didn't see anything about a waiting period.
