i think what these types of questions boil down to is "do i want a portable computer or not?"

if you don't need to take your computer with you definitely drop the coin on an iMac. BUT BEWARE. Gizmodo has been reporting for almost 2 months now that the new 27" iMacs are having some serious screen issues. The screens aren't showing true whites, have a gradient that fades to yellow and a screen flicker. it's something with the LG screen (the new dell 27" screen uses the exact LG model and is reportedly having the same issues).

besides, the new 27" iMacs aren't shipping yet for the reasons mentioned above. apple is holding them back until the problem is resolved.

i've got a 24" iMac with maxed our ram and the machine absolutely smokes. in all honesty i couldn't be happier with it. the screen is beautiful and so far i haven't had one single issue with it.

if you do get the iMac get this.

i've got mine holding up two 1tb externals. it keeps everything off of my desk.

    cheers.

    • so basically what i'm saying is get the 27" iMac once the screen issue has been resolved. you'll thank us later.kona
    • My friend actually had that 27" issue just a few days ago. But it was more of a graphics card issue than an LCD. The screen would flicker each timeediot
    • would flicker each time she would run Photoshop, After Effects, and a video games she usually plays.ediot
    • the flicker i believe they fixed with a software update, but the yellowish tint to the screen is an lp problem.kona
