Same position. I did 9 months at my last job, everyone else has been there for at least 4 years. I was laid off 3 weeks ago and was told that I more than likely wouldn't get a call back within the next 4 months. Since then I started a 3 month contract with an international packaging company which mainly deals with products marketed to Walmart (which is nice because it's high volume and I get a % of net for each run,) was published in a Milan design magazine, and gained a healthy growing number of quality freelance projects I actually enjoy working on.
So what Ponyboy said pretty much.
Two days ago the firm I used to work for emailed me and wants me to come back. I declined since I'm really enjoying sleeping in, working on my watch, and making 20x the amount of money I was getting at the firm. Plus I'm finally able to finish my last two semesters of my second degree.
+1 for being laid off and being able to switch gears.
