    Give them a chance to resolve the situation amicably. If they can come out of the situation feeling like they did the right thing (and you get your money), then I think it's a win-win situation.

    Make sure you don't undo the good work you initially did. If you take the site down / or do anything else to disrupt their business, you stand less chance of getting paid.

    As soon as they start feeling like they're the bad guys / they're in a battle - the situation stands less chance of being resolved.

    If you haven't already, I'd try to speak to them on the phone or in person - and ask them to explain why you haven't been paid, and how they're going to get the money to you as soon as possible. Try to make it personal. Letters can be ignored.
