There seems to be two main concepts for what aliens looks like. One is from the movie Alien.
The other are these oval eyed, emaciated looking things. No idea where this one started.
My theory though is that when we eventually make contact with aliens, it will really shock everyone by being the opposite of what we are expecting. So not some thing with buggy eyes and five legs, but just a normal looking animal like a dog or something. Think about how shocking that would be.
