    medium format lens held in front of a dSLR. The idea is that the MF lens sprays a larger image over the sensor because the lens is designed for medium format film, which is much larger than a normal dSLR sensor (or 35mm slide film). This allows wilder movements of the lens while still keeping slop broadcast over the
    sensor.

    here is a rough idea of what i mean:


    the medium format lens over the sensor on the left and a full frame lens just barely covering the sensor on the right.
