@airey - Depends on the context of his advise request... huff.. justifying this will take my entire lifes experience to bring me to the point where you comprehend my comment. but in a nutshell...

They wouldn't put the music on myspace if it was solely for their own enjoyment. By all means make music for yourself its creative freedom and a way to relax. But stuff thats being marketed (i.e 3 minute songs designed to fit on a record) should have a wider appeal. I suppose, I read the 'advise' request as a 'how do you think we could improve to be more commercially successful'.

As the average person my opinion is more valid that yours (someone who's already sold). Most professional musicians are like designers(Artists) and likely laymanise their actual ability to be marketable. If they had a choice they would release 10-20 minute songs with all sorts of personal attachments as samples. But generally they don't, so I was advising him to be more appealing to a wider audience (someone like me) with me reading the context of his 'advise' as commercial success.

Your advise is also very good as it gives him direction, something else I alluded to when I told him not to try and sound like something that has been before. But something that is moving forward and you drew comparisons with similar artists. Both yours and my opinions are valid as each others. You don't have to understand why but to wrugs whether negative or positive he has some things to consider.

Overall I wasn't slamming him, I didn't take the piss as others did, and I wouldn't give the time of day if I didn't care. Altho negative in tone I was actually being cruel to be kind to put a valid point across given my understanding of the context of the question.

    • groovy, thx for the effort and does give him another viewpoint.airey
