Print vs PDF Portfolio

    You got it right in your second thought - you can explain the process in the interview. I used the exact 12 pieces in my print portfolio and my PDF version that I emailed. Here's what I learned:
    1) Putting together the portfolio (at least in my case) is very time consuming. You will save time that you can use for searching or other things if you don't have to do twice the work.
    2) When I showed up for interviews, I noticed that at least one person was familiar with the pieces, but there were others in the room that never saw the pieces.
    3) I noticed some people who asked that a PDF portfolio was submitted with the application, never looked at the PDF. It was all new to them when I showed the print, during the interview. Or maybe they just looked at a couple pages of the PDF, but not entirely.
