I'm an agnostic who believes in evolution (unil someone proves that it's less plausible than some other theory).

I am anti-abortion, but pro condom, diaphragm, birth control pill, and common sense.

From the moment of conception, barring some unforseen accident, a fertilized egg will develop into a human being like any of us. While it draws sustenance from the mother, to say that it's "part of her body" is idiotic. It's genetically distinct. In addition to supplying the baby with oxygen and nutrients, the placenta protects the baby from the mother's immune system .. which might otherwie attack the baby because it's a distinct and separate living thing residing within the mother's womb.

We all make mistakes in life. I don't think that people, however foolishly and thoughtlessly they've behaved, who have conceived a child through unprotected sex should be stoned to death - but why compound their mistake by allowing them to murder a child?

It's barbaric. Abortion is one of those brutal, primitive practices that degrades us as a society.

Don't want the baby? Put it up for adoption. Worried that the social /child services bureaucracy is broken (a common justification for infanticide) ? Lobby the govt and vote for politicians who will improve the system.

Abortion is murder. If you believe otherwise, you're kidding youself - just as socities of the past were able to cobble together various cockeyed justifications for slavery (ie the scientists of those days 'proved' that Africans were inferior to Europeans and that slavery was somehow'helping' them ... or, worse, the 'natural' state of things).
