For what it's worth the uniformed cop in the video at that link seemed very calm and encouraged the people to go report the detective.
i personally think it sucks when people lump all police into this dick's category. Yes, the profession seems to either attract, or turn people into, massive arrogant assholes on a power trip. But it's easy to lose sight of the thousands of incidents where the real bad guy is actually apprehended or someone is helped. i won't set foot in NYC or DC now, i'd hate to thing what those places would be like if it weren't for the police.
As has been mentioned in numerous other "Cops are pigs" threads, people in this profession, who see the worst of the worse of our society, need to get over the machismo and seek ongoing professional help. Not because they're crazy, but because not addressing the inherent stresses of the job will leave them to fester and also lead to terrible and sometimes harmful/fatal, decisions- We have a longtime family friend who went crazy after years as an officer. Lost his wife, kids, everything.********
