    actaully the serious detriment to the music is the lack of accessibilty to the variety that exists...

    some of us know where to find the creative shit. Which street corners or record stores to hit. Which dj's to listen for.

    But when it comes to hip hop for the masses, you have merketable product aka the hot97s and mtvs of the world.

    The idea that hip hop as a whole is dead hardly makes sense being that most of the members and creators are alive and well. it's a music genre, yes, but it's also a culture that lives within those who participate, most of whom are alive, kicking, writing (walls and paper, dancing, making beats, speaking, etc, etc) and keeping it alive and breathing.

    as long as the makers and creators exist, the influence carries on, and hip hop 'lives'.
