.max vs .3ds

    I use 3dtudio since the it's version 3/4. This when it would only run in MS-DOS!! Back in the days the files ad the .3ds extension. Max extension was used after the first release of 3D Studio MAX (already in Windows environment), from the newly formed software house Discreet, that would be brought by Autodesk, producers of the excellent AutoCAD.

    The 3ds was (and still is) used to export import stuff from/in AutoCAD environment. It became irrelevant since MAX is now fully compatible with the CAD's dwg format.

    Consider it an old relative of the MAX file...
