Volkswagen... but it depends on what type of 'smart' you're looking for... Wally Olins' book "On Brand" highlights a few of these innovative global brands, but mostly from a strategic/business sense, not sure if that's what you're looking for... in my experience the most innovative and risk-taking brands are either local or national at the most, so possibly not relevant...
