    Just went throught the same thing with my G5.

    Had to get a friend over because I kept reading how "easy" it was as well only to waste hours trying to get it to work.

    The secret seems to be in changing the IP address of the PC so it dosen't conflict with the Mac. Make sure you also shut off the checkbox for "Protect my computer from the internet" (or something like that.)

    Then on the Mac you create a new network connection specifically for sharing the computer files. If you have the two machines hooked together with a crossover ethernet cable the Mac will then be able to connect to the PC. The login ID the Mac asks for is the one you use for your PC. You should then see your Shared Folders mounted on the Mac.

    Sorry I'm a little vague on details, I can check when I get in tonight and get more info about the connection and process.
