Also, if no one got a ticket, something is fishy.

In most instances, insurance companies cannot determine fault in an accident unless an officer arrived on scene to accurately detail the scene of the accident. If no ticket was served to anyone, then it also seems unlikely that any paperwork was filed. If you could give more detail on what actually happened/interactions with the officer, that could give me a better idea of what you're in for with the insurance companies.

    • likely he filed a report and had a report number. a ticket has no bearing on the report7point34
    • Not entirely true. It is typically the officer's duty to determine fault. In this case, the cop might have been in a hurry to get somewhere.dMullins
    • somewhere, and thus decided to leave it up to the insurance companies to battle it out.dMullins
    • Meaning, he's a shitty fucking cop.dMullins
    • fault yes, but that does not automatically deem a citation is necessary.7point34
    • case in point: i was involved in an accident that was deemed my fault and the cop explained that he wasn't going to write a ticket7point34
    • ... ticket, because he didn't think it was reckless on my part, nor was anyone hurt.7point34
    • i also received no point on my license though my insurance rates did go up slightly7point34
    • Then you too got lucky. There is always fault in an accident, and in the US, fault = a way to fine for money.dMullins
    • Regardless, I'm not really arguing your point, just trying to help the OP out.dMullins
