One time I was selling this bike on craigslist. It was listed that I would deliver it "whenever". 9:30 at night rolls around and I get this random call for the bike. I thought, "shit, if someone is gonna call me out to show the bike at this hour, it's good as sold."
So there I was, sitting in front of the high rise apartments next to SF State about to show this single speed that I built when this slow speaking jam band stoner saunters out of the building and hobbles in my direction. He said he liked the bike but wanted to know if he could, "show his brother the bike, he knows more about bikes."
Tired, I agreed. His brother came out of the building, as well as a blond girl who was high as a kite. They rode it around in a circle or two, then asked, "Can we see the bike in the light of our apartment".
Up for anything I agreed, and walked the bike into the building behind them. I was looking down, fumbling with a loose bolt on the back of the bike as we walked into the apartment. When I looked up I was shocked with what I saw.
The room was 18 ft long and about 11 feet wide. On one side of the room was a couch, and about a million miles away on the other end was a tiny tv. A mattress laid on the floor at the far end. The rest of the room was filled wall to wall with cannabis trees, 6ft tall. I stood there shocked, but trying to keep my cool by not calling attention to it.
The guy and his brother started trying to low ball me $15 for minor rusted bolts that held the front and back tires on. When I didn't budge, they attempted to offer me a door-number-two, all the shwag I could put in my pockets. I said, "no thanks, I'd rather have cash." They nodded then said they would be right back and disappeared into the back room leaving me with the brain dead blond girl.
Trying to make conversation I said, "this place is a pretty big apartment".
"Yeah it's a 2 bedroom, but we use the bedrooms as storage".
I rolled my eyes and took a deep breath. They finally paid me and I made a point to stop saying I'll deliver stuff at night.
