your job is what you make of it totally! however maybe if the work you are doing isn't what you desire and you know what work you are capable of, and the potencial employer sees this then surely applying for the job whilst employed is to your advantage. It does work both ways.
So perhaps bin the job and mess for a while, doing nice work that will get the desired job. Then you can cut your losses.
