    Now send it back to apple for a logic board transplant, I'm afraid.
    Chances are the video card died. If it's out of warranty, it'll cost close to a new computer, at least to a refurb, might be worth fixing yourself or someone skilled in that stuff.

    You can run diagnostic software, it's on one of the disks that came with the computer.

    Again, if you only have time machine backups, cloning the disk with proper cloning software will save you trouble restoring should your disk lose its content.
