  What about.
  Snow: sort of frozen water. generally white
  Skis: Two sticks you put on your feet. Activity = skiing.
  Snowboard: Like a big skateboard with no wheels and used on snow.

  See? easy. Stand out from the crowd. Don't use ski lingo.
