    hmmm, not sure about that article, I'm of the 'if it ain't broke' camp. The best instruments are the ones that give the opportunity to express the most emotion. To this end, instruments the have the capabililty of producing vibrato will usually evoke more emotion. eg violin versus harpsichord.
    Obviously the range and tonal qualities of the instrument are important too. But in the end it's about producing musical sounds that get across what you want to convey.

    As for the tenori-on, to me that's not an instrument it's a sequencer interface. There's a big difference.
    I'm all for empowering people to make music, but I think there's a vast chasm between people like DJ and guys who sample and sequence to guys who write and play music on a traditional instrument.
    This whole culture of things like Guitar Hero worries me, because kids now spend so much time, pretending to make music instead of actually making music. Give a kids a real guitar and some albums and some lessons and book and let him work it out for himself. Why mimic when you can create.
