Good luck with your decision pascii, sounds like the right move, I'm not a father but I know from experience that if an employer treats you like that then the best thing to do is get out, keep yourself respect and find a better situation. Sounds like it could be a time for big changes in your life. I love a big shake up every now and then. The main thing is to make sure you're in a better situation in a few years when you kid needs stability.
