as lvl_13 said - I have a cane corso and she is the awesomest dog ever. They do not drool that much, they are a great size (mine is 85# - a bit small, males go 120 or so. Mine is a bit goofy and doean't like men in beards, is cautious around men in general but loves women and children. I have a friend who's 4 year old would get a running start from across the room and superman onto her when she was lying down and she would just look up, lick his face and then put her head back down.
She was very easy to train, but becasue she's smart (for a dog) she was constantly testing boundaries - like a little kid. So it is a good choice as long as it is not your first dog.
Also because they have a certain look that is kind of familar, but not quite everyone - has to stop you and ask what kind of dog you have. That's a little cool at the beginning, but gets old after a while.
The great thing about mastiffs in general is that they just have this mellow attitude, like they know that they can handle anything that comes thier way, so they just chill.
I had a french mastiff / douge de bordeaux also. I like the cane corso more.
anyway, here's a picture of my cane corso eating the french mastiff when it was a pup
