I've seen the documentary..there is nothing "alternative agenda" about it, so I don't know why you phrased it that way in your post. Getting minerals, energy, etc. from space was always part of the stated objectives of near earth space exploration.

This discussion does not negate the real costs of earth to orbit which is still not economically viable. Yet. It's on the horizon, but not ten years out, unless you have a) a massive breakthrough in materials science and b) massive governmental funding to subsidize any industry that wants to take this on. A is possible, B in the current economic climate? Forget it, especially with the idiotic comments made on that site, indicitive of the average dumbfuck american.

Other possibilities for solving energy crisis on space tech, are the building of earth orbit solar collectors and beaming the energy back to earth. We have the science for that now. It's strictly an engineering problem, and a public issue about who wants the kilometer wide earth based collection station in their back yard.

That BBC documentary has lots of truth in it, but it hypes it up and shortens the timelines, and doesn't report on other technologies that are more viable, cheaper and near term.

I'm sorry, my cousin is a fucking NASA rocket scientist and we talk about this shit all the time.

    • OK, he's not a rocket scientists, but a flight controller..but same shit..TheBlueOne
    • I said watch the doc then shutup. Tell your cousin to shutup too.zman
