i have white spots on my new powerbook too. and i'm 95% positive it's not from the screen touching the keyboard.
i've barely even had the screen closed since i got it (approx. a month and a half ago), and if i did, i had a piece of paper over the keys.
i have a friend who has had a ibook for a while and i saw what the keys did to her screen and it's a lot different than mine.
mine looks like there's really something wrong with the monitor itself, not a mark on the screen.
i'll be taking it into an apple store in about a month to have someone look at it. i'd do it sooner but i can't afford to be without my computer until then.
it seems a lot of people have had this problem, so i'm anxious to see what happens when i take it in
