  "Before passing them, I connected eye-to-eye with one of them and said, "Hi <name>, sorry we didn't get to talk, maybe next time?" She gave me a weird look, and continued to walk past me without saying a word. I knew right then I would not be taking the offer."

  No disrespect to you but if if she doesn't actually know you then you were maybe a little over familiar and dare I say it, a bit creepy to be so familiar with her that you were able to greet her by name on first site.
