Did you arrive there eventually detritus? I didn't get a chance to get on QBN earlier that day... It would have been a pity if you had come and we wouldn't have a drink together.
The lecture was definitely worth going to. Spiekermann was introduced as someone who "cursed very well in English". He didn't do much of that, but proved to be a captivating speaker with a sharp sense of humour. He spoke about wayfinding systems and its relation to time and place.
Then there was Tim Fendley http://www.appliedinformationgro… talking about new city maps he had been introducing in the UK (Legible City). He showed some of the conclusions of their studies about how people perceived and brain-mapped city spaces and walking/commuting distances. Then went on to show us the result in maps: print, city-stands and mobile apps.
Typically for this kind of events both of them spoke about their own work and companies (in other words, 99% self pimping), but that was what we came there for and they were nonetheless very informative and most of all inspiring.
It was a pleasure to meet ribit again during the reception that followed, wine provided by London College of Communication. I managed to have a small chat with Spiekermann, just so I could secure years of unintentional name dropping.
