A have a long pointy thing in my house for such emergencies. I think they're more intimidating to an intruder and also far safe than a gun. It won't kill anyone on another side of a wall by mistake, and I'll be pretty sure of who it is I am swinging it against (well thrusting is the smarter move) given the distances involved than if it was a handgun.
Furthermore, I have zero trust in any human being that comes into my house in the middle of the night uninvited, to burglar or otherwise. The minute someone crosses that threshold unannounced, I have to assume this person is there for the worst possible reasons and my life and that of my families is in jeopardy. Even if the guy came in to steal a tv, who knows what he would do if startled. What if the guy has two marks against him and a third will send him away for good? Maybe he'll think he should kill me or harm me so he could get away without detection. Maybe he is there for a home invasion, how the fuck should I know. In this case the intruder made the decision to break the law. I have no idea what his intentions are and it isn't my job to guess what's "going on in his mind". If he doesn't try to flee immediately upon discovery I would consider it a life or death situation without hesitation.
- never call your penis a long pointy thing. it's creepy.k0na_an0k

- Well said TBO, completely agree. No sane person ever wants to kill another human being, but the flip side could be far worse..ie he kills your whole family...rapes your wife or some other atrocious act.designbot
