i agree COMPLETELY with the last line, designbot. Some of the other stuff.. not so much. While i agree that gun owners for the most part buy their weapons as a detrrant, as a "just in case" insurance policy of sorts, this guy had a sword. Who buys a sword AND ONLY A SWORD to defend themselves in this day and age? Now, maybe this guy was a martial arts expert and was trained in using it, but otherwise, it smacks of someone who's just been wronged wanting to go and meed out some revenge.
But since we're what if-ing. what if you had a brother who continually made the wrong choices. Shitty jobs that he did shitty at, fucked up relationships, gambling problem, whatever. And you knew he was trouble and you did what you could, but you can't babysit an adult. And you hope he turns his life around someday and you do what you can to make that happen.
And then you get a phone call that some 20 yr old KILLED him while he was breaking into a garage unarmed (for surely, the report would have said if he had a weapon). Are you less sad and furious because your brother was being a thief?

    • this is of course full of abstractions and suppositions and all, but that's the game we play here, ain't it?locustsloth
    • His actions and what happened to him would be outside of my control no?TheBlueOne
    • So you just say "Tough titty says the kitty" and move on?locustsloth
