cheers for the help, I did a simple work around:
I manually spaced the gradients out using the color stop arror, taking a note of the location of each one before hand, once edited, I put them back, overlapping and all. The big downside is that you can't preview it whilst doing this, so trial and error really.
Not come across something like this before.
