Whatever you do, just don't pair two very similar typefaces, it always looks awkward.
For excellent complement there are type families which contain Sans, Serif and sometimes Slab fonts, they are usually based on the same shapes and therefore match perfectly (FF Scala, LF Thesis, PF Centro etc.) Different fonts by the same designer may work well too (Univers and Egyptienne F)
Another approach is to choose a completely different font, like a very condensed Sans for the headlines and a more conventional Serif (or Sans mind you) for body copy. Also think of point sizes, headlines may be 5 times as big as body copy, or the same point size, and still have visual impact you need.
It's all to achieve different goals, if you go with a type family, you can get a very clean, calm, harmonic layout. Completely different fonts make better contrast. Think about what you need.
Make sure your font actually works as body copy, I don't think Elan does. Same for headlines: is the face interesting enough or is it just a regular face printed big.
