you want to avoid answering this without some conversation with them, as it's probably a question used to screen out people...
if you say too low, they're going to hold you to it and maybe think you're a lightweight,
if you say too high, they won't consider you, even if you may be many times better and bring more to the company than other people who will work for less....
salary should be the last, not the first question....
