I remember the first time I ever heard of him.
It was the early 80's and I was playing the vinyl version Van Halen's Diver Down I got from the Columbia Record Club for 1ยข as loud as possible. My dad busts through my bedroom door and screams "What the hell are you listening too!?" I tried to explain to him I was listening to the greatest guitarist in the world and that Eddie Van Halen invented this style of playing.
That's when my dad had to sit me down and give me a history lesson of Rock n Roll. He told me about a guy named Les Paul that could make his guitar talk and sing and even made his own guitars. He played me some of his music but I was not impressed at the time but looking back I remember that day fondly.
