  According to AMA in 2007 there were 921,900 physicians in the USA who pay an annual average of $150,000 in medical malpractice insurance. While this adds up to $138 billion in cost there was only $3.7 billion paid out in claims according to the Kaiser Family Statehealthfacts.org.
