I believe it might have something to do with mac opentype or postscript fonts coming from a mac, than copied to a pc, than back to a mac... Sounds like some dirty font whore porno... But I believe somewhere in the process the fonts are corrupt now and can't be used on a mac once on a pc... I THINK. Or just try to use trans type pro to convert to otf or ttf? Worth a shot...
