I never need to because I have always handed down my computers to my parents and made sure they work perfectly well. My father is a very perceptive man and learns quickly, so he tends to do updates and what not and if something a bit too complicated comes up he tends to phone me and understands things quite well.
The only time I really need to help when I am back home is showing him how to do something rather than 'fixing' the computer. Moral of the story is give your folks a good computer and you dinnae need to worry.
