um, its simple; if you have the equivalent Vista version you get an in place install which is less invasive, if you're doing a 'proper' upgrade to a better version of 7 you're going to have to do a full install.
Windows has different versions of its operating systems, with different prices for different levels of users and 32 and 64 bit versions of the machines. Ergo, this table is necessary. no?
