    Proper information graphics will always be useful. I think magazines like Good and Wired (and the studios/freelancers they hire) are doing a great job at it these days.

    Agree about the useless wank that's out there, but sometimes infographic-type illustrations can be very useful in highlighting a concept from a text that is not data visualization per se... I don't really see that as a trend, merely a graphic device that's been around for decades with still a great deal of room for innovation and originality.
