    'a general theory of magic' by marcel mauss
    is a great primer on this stuff.

    ...crowley is mostly entertainment, although i thought parts of 'magick in theory and practice' & some of his little essays were quite good. but then you may as well read eliphas levi, cornelius agrippa, paracelsus, john dee, et al. as well.
